COMPETITION RULES & GUIDELINES

The Next Generational Showcase & Competition is designed for AMATEUR LEVEL dancers and competitors. Students & dancers who are professionals, semi-professionals, assist or are paid to teach and perform are not eligible.

SALSA TEAM COMPETITION RULES:
(1) Salsa dance team must register and identify all coaches/choreographers and assistant coaches/choreographers with the Next Generation College Salsa Bachata Congress.
(2) A minimum of 3 couples consisting of a LEAD & a FOLLOW are needed to form a team.
(3) All competitors must be students or Amateur level dancers. If you have been PAID to teach, dance, perform, participate in dance events, you are not eligible for this competition.
(4) Maximum length of routine is 2:30 / Routine must be at least 90% Salsa
(5) Routine can be on1 or on2 however, the timing must stay consistent throughout the entire routine.
(6) There is a MAXIMUM of 3 lifts/tricks allowed during the routine. *A lift/trick for this competition is defined as an assisted move when both feet are off the ground and any part of the body is ABOVE the shoulders.
(7) Coaches and team choreographers associated with any competing team are not eligible to serve as judges.
(8) A MINIMUM of 5 Teams must participate for CATEGORY TO ADVANCE TO COMPETITION. Otherwise, couples and teams may participate as a showcase but scoring will not take place and trophies & cash prizes for any category with LESS than 5 Teams or Couples will not be distributed.
(9) Professional Judges will score on following categories: TIMING, SYNCHRONIZATION, EXECUTION, CHOREOGRAPHY, MUSICALITY, APPEARANCE & COSTUME, AUDIENCE RESPONSE
(10) All decisions are FINAL.

BACHATA TEAM COMPETITION RULES:

(4) Routine may be on1, on2, Colombian, or Cuban style, however timing must remain consistent throughout routine.

(6) Coaches and choreographers associated with any competing couples are not eligible to serve as judges.

PRO/AM COMPETITION RULES:
(1) A Pro/Am Couple consists of 1 Professional Dancer and 1 Amateur Dancer.  Professional may be Lead or Follow.  Amateur Dancer cannot be paid or assistant in any teaching capacity.
(2) Length of routine should be between 1:30-2:00 minutes.
(3) Routine may be Salsa or Bachata but style must remain consistent throughout.
(4) There is a MAXIMUM of 3 lifts/tricks allowed during the routine. *A lift/trick for this competition is defined as an assisted move when both feet are off the ground and any part of the body is ABOVE the shoulders.
(5) Coaches and choreographers associated with any competing couples are not eligible to serve as judges.
(6) Professional Judges will score THE STUDENT/AMATEUR on following categories: TIMING, SYNCHRONIZATION, EXECUTION, CHOREOGRAPHY, MUSICALITY, APPEARANCE & COSTUME, AUDIENCE RESPONSE
(7) A MINIMUM of 5 Couples must participate for CATEGORY TO ADVANCE TO COMPETITION. Otherwise, couples and teams may participate as a showcase but scoring will not take place and trophies & cash prizes for any category with LESS than 5 Teams or Couples will not be distributed.
(8) All decisions are FINAL.

ALL COMPETITORS MUST HAVE A VALID PERFORMERS/COMPETITOR WRISTBAND/PASS.  Your Pass will allow you full access to All Day Workshops, Day Party, Showcase, Preliminaries, Finals and Evening Dance/Concert. You must purchase a new pass if your pass is lost, stolen or misplaced.

Performers/Competitor Pass
$35 before April 15th (for 1 competition entry)
$40 after April 15th (for 1 competition entry)
$45 Door (only if spots are available)

For Any Additional Competition Entry:
Please add $25 Each Additional Category before April 15th
Please add $30 Each Category after April 15th
Please add $45 Each Category at Door (only if spots are available)

College Salsa Championship Prize Recipients must complete Student Verification forms upon Registration and submit official sealed university transcripts no later than 30 days of competition date. After 30 days, prize money will be forfeited and if university transcripts are invalid, College Salsa Championship standing may be revoked.
