A Brief History of the College Salsa Congress

In 2008, Teddy Zou from Occidental College had the vision to bring together college salsa dance teams together in one spectacular event to showcase the talents of the next generation.  The first College Salsa Congress took place at the World  Famous Steven Steakhouse and featured 8 college dance teams.  It was there where Teddy met Laura Luu.  The next year they began working together and in 2 short years, the College Salsa Congress grew so much, it was moved to the Seaport Marina Hotel & Ballrooms.  In 2010, College Salsa Championships was introduced.  2014 was the biggest year yet, as the Congress was presented at the Four Points Sheraton LAX.  The event now features a performance showcase and an intense competition show-down.  The competition is in the spirit of displaying great sportsmanship and camaraderie. Competing teams are able to challenge themselves and represent with school pride. The competition has definitely been an major influence, helping to elevate the level of dancing to new heights among up and coming dancers, as the choreography, costuming and technique have stepped up each and every year. The College Salsa Congress now proudly features over 25 top college salsa dance teams.
